What is an SEO check?

An SEO check reads a web page the way a search engine does and reports anything that could stop it being found, understood or chosen.

What does an SEO check look at?

A good check covers three things. Can search engines reach the page? (status code, robots.txt, noindex, canonical, sitemap). Can they understand it? (title, headings, content, structured data). Will people want to click and stay? (snippet, speed, mobile usability, trust). Newer tools, including XKey, add a fourth: can AI assistants find and cite it?

How should I read the score?

Scores are weighted: problems that stop a page appearing at all count far more than nice-to-haves. Treat the score as a to-do list, not a grade – a page scoring 85 with a critical indexing problem is in more trouble than one scoring 75 with minor warnings.

What can't an SEO checker tell you?

  • Your actual rankings – that needs Google Search Console or a rank tracker.
  • How strong your competitors are for a particular search.
  • Your backlink profile in full – that requires a crawl of the whole web.
  • Whether your content is the best answer – that's still a human judgement.
