- AI crawler access. We read your robots.txt the way each crawler does. Search crawlers such as OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot and Googlebot decide whether you can be cited; training-only crawlers such as GPTBot and Google-Extended only affect model training, so we report them separately.
- Snippet controls. Google documents that

What is AI SEO (or GEO)?
Generative engine optimisation – often called AI SEO or GEO – means making your site easy for AI assistants to find, understand and cite. Most of it is good SEO done thoroughly: crawlable pages, clear facts, structured data and content that answers real questions. The difference is that AI tools are less forgiving of vague pages, because they need a confident, specific answer to quote. Our AI search optimisation guide explains each step.
Should I block AI crawlers?
It depends on what you want. Blocking training crawlers (GPTBot, Google-Extended, CCBot) stops your content being used to train models but doesn't stop you being found. Blocking search crawlers (OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot) stops those assistants showing and linking to your site. Does llms.txt help me rank in ChatGPT?
Not directly – no major AI provider has said it uses llms.txt as a ranking signal. It's a low-effort way to give AI tools a clean overview, so we report it as low impact.
How long until AI assistants notice changes?
Assistants that search the web live (such as ChatGPT search or Perplexity) can see changes as soon as their crawler revisits. Answers that come from a model's training data only change when the model is retrained.
