What does a good sitemap look like?

  • Listed in robots.txt with a Sitemap: line, and submitted in Google Search Console.
  • Only includes pages you want indexed: no redirects, errors or noindex pages.
  • Uses accurate lastmod dates so search engines know what changed.
  • Split into a sitemap index if you have more than 50,000 URLs.
