Bing Places and Bing SEO
Bing gets a small share of UK searches compared with Google, but it's the default on many Windows computers and work laptops, and its index feeds several AI assistants. Setting it up takes under an hour and most of your competitors haven't bothered.

Why does Bing matter?
- Default search on Windows and Edge. Plenty of customers, especially on work computers, search with Bing without thinking about it.
- AI search. Microsoft Copilot uses Bing's index, and other AI tools have used Bing's search results too. Being well indexed in Bing helps you show up in those answers. See AI search optimisation.
- Less competition. Fewer businesses keep their Bing listings up to date.
How do I set up Bing Places?
- Go to Bing Places for Business and sign in with a Microsoft account.
- Import your listing from your Google Business Profile – it copies your details, hours and categories – or create it by hand.
- Verify it, then add photos and check every detail matches your website and Google exactly.
How do I set up Bing Webmaster Tools?
Bing Webmaster Tools is Bing's version of Google Search Console. The quickest way is to import your site from Google Search Console – it brings your verified sites and sitemaps across in a couple of clicks. Once in, check for crawl errors and see which searches you appear for on Bing.
What is IndexNow?
IndexNow is a way for your site to tell Bing (and some other search engines) the moment a page is added or changed, instead of waiting to be crawled. Many website builders and SEO plugins support it with a tick box. Google doesn't use IndexNow, so keep your sitemap in Search Console as well.
Is Bing SEO different from Google SEO?
Mostly the same basics apply: clear titles, useful content, a fast secure site and good links. Bing tends to put a little more weight on exact-match wording in titles and headings, on social signals, and on well-structured pages. A site that follows our on-page SEO checklist does well on both.

Does Bing Places affect Google?
No. They're separate listings. But matching details across both help customers and avoid confusion.
Does DuckDuckGo use Bing?
DuckDuckGo uses several sources, including Bing, for its results. Being well listed on Bing usually helps there too.
