What the hosting checker shows
Hosting company
The platform or host behind the site: Shopify, Wix, WP Engine, Amazon, OVH, IONOS, a UK host and so on.
IP addresses
Every IPv4 and IPv6 address, who owns each network, its address range and the country it's registered in.
CDN and reverse DNS
Whether Cloudflare or another CDN sits in front, and the server's own name from reverse DNS, which often names the host.
Why find out who hosts a website?
- Moving a site. Lost track of where your own site lives? Find the host before your renewal or before you change anything.
- Reporting abuse. A copy of your content, a scam page or spam: the host is who to contact, through their abuse address.
- Checking a supplier. See whether a web designer hosts sites themselves or on a big platform, and whether the server is in the UK.
- Speed. A server on the other side of the world, with no CDN, makes every first visit slower for UK customers.
Does hosting affect SEO?
Indirectly. Google doesn't rank sites higher for a particular host, but a slow or unreliable server hurts: pages load slower, Google crawls less when the server struggles, and downtime can drop pages from results. What it can't tell you
- The host behind a CDN. Cloudflare, Fastly and similar services answer for the site, so the IP addresses belong to them. That's what they're designed to do, and we don't try to get around it.
- The exact data centre. The country is where the IP address is registered, which is usually, but not always, where the server is.
- Resellers. Many small hosts rent servers from bigger companies, so the network owner may be the company behind your host.
Frequently asked questions
Is the hosting checker free?
Yes. No sign-up, no email and no subscription, with only a fair-use limit to stop bots.
Why does it say Cloudflare?
The site uses Cloudflare as a CDN and security layer, so visitors (and we) only ever see Cloudflare's addresses. The real host is hidden on purpose; the site owner can see it in their Cloudflare account.
How do I find who hosts my email?
Email can be hosted somewhere else. The DNS lookup shows the MX records, and the website technology checker names the email provider.
Can I find other sites on the same server?
Not with this tool. Many hosts put thousands of sites on one address, and a reliable list needs a full scan of the internet.
